A brilliant checklist app still isn’t a construction EHSQ system.
Mitti — the new name SafetyCulture took in August 2026 — is a genuinely well-built, widely loved inspection and checklist platform, serving roughly 80,000 organisations across every industry from retail to NASCAR. It just wasn’t built for construction and manufacturing compliance specifically — and that gap is structural, not cosmetic.

A great generalist. Not a construction specialist.
Mitti earns its reputation. Independent reviewers rate it around 4.6/5 on both G2 and Capterra, its mobile inspection app is widely praised as one of the most intuitive in the category, and its public template library runs past 100,000 checklists. None of that is in dispute.
What it isn’t is a construction or manufacturing EHSQ platform. It’s a horizontal inspection-and-checklist tool that has expanded into training, asset tracking, sensors and IoT — useful breadth for a retailer or a hotel chain, but not the structured, audit-ready workflow a site-based safety, quality and environmental programme is actually built on.
The difference shows up as workflow depth, not feature count. Mitti can hold a checklist titled “Permit to Work” or “RAMS Review” — it has public templates for both. What it doesn’t have is a permit that won’t issue until training, induction and a versioned risk assessment all check out, or a live check against a subcontractor’s SSIP scheme membership. That logic is what a compliance-grade system needs, and it’s not what a generic form builder is built to do.

Three gaps that carry real consequences
Audit & assurance risk
A checklist titled “Permit” isn’t a permit.
What holds up under an HSE audit or a tier-one client review is a permit that physically couldn’t issue without live training, induction and RAMS sign-off — not a form that was filled in and filed.
Vertical fit risk
It “handles one side,” per independent reviewers.
Safety inspections without connected environmental, quality and supply-chain data means a construction or manufacturing EHSQ team still runs two systems and reconciles them by hand.
Cost-at-scale risk
Per-seat pricing and a site-based workforce don’t mix.
A platform priced per named user gets expensive fast once hundreds of operatives, subcontractors and visitors are inducted through it — a structurally different cost curve to a site or portfolio-based EHSQ subscription.
